Risk management
Research conducted by the National Mentoring Network a few years ago indicated that many practitioners felt that their knowledge of the risks of mentoring and befriending and associated implications for managing these risks, including insurance cover, to protect against such eventualities was relatively limited.
More recently, research conducted by Volunteering England (VE) has highlighted increasing concerns amongst both voluntary sector providers and volunteers in relation to risk. As a result of this research, VE developed and published their ‘Risk Toolkit’, which is downloadable from their website. One of the key issues that the toolkit highlights is the prevailing culture of concern around risk for volunteer involving organisations. The document also recommends the development of more specialist guidance and literature in order to further inform the sector.
MBF run a one day training course to help organisations to develop their risk management practices. Further details can be found within national training programme.
