Access to Volunteering Fund

Pilot scheme to improve access to volunteering for disabled people

The Access to Volunteering Fund is a pilot scheme that aims to increase the number of disabled people in volunteer positions by breaking down the barriers they currently face when wanting to volunteer.

The pilot consists of five rounds of grant funding and will run until March 2011 in Greater London, the West Midlands and the North West of England.

Grants between £250 and £5,000 are available for organisations involving volunteers in the public and third sectors.  Applicants will need to either be registered with the Charity Commission, have an HM Revenue & Customs number, or will need to demonstrate that their organisation and/or project has a charitable purpose.

The fund encourages applications from organisations that:
  • already have a track record in involving disabled volunteers and want to increase the number of volunteers they support and the effectiveness of their approach; and
  • have no or little track record in working with disabled volunteers but have a track record in service delivery and want to develop a new initiative.

Group applications are welcomed from organisations seeking to use the funds for pooled resources.

All organisations must have a strong local presence in the West Midlands, Greater London or the North West of England.

The deadline for round 2 applications is 8 February 2010.
