How Flying Fish helped Jamie!

Care leavers benefit from new charity initiative

A young care leaver has managed to turn his life around after being given the opportunity to prove himself on a mentoring work placement as part of The Flying Fish Project, an initiative of the charity Leicestershire Cares

Like many young people leaving care Jamie found it difficult to make the transition into working life. When he was referred to the project Jamie was unemployed and desperate to find work so that he could stand on his own two feet. It was only when Jamie was referred to Leicestershire Cares, which aims to bring businesses and community together through employee volunteering, that he could finally start to become independent.

The Flying Fish Project officially launched on the 9th April aims to help young people leaving the care system into work or training by asking employers to offer them a mentored work placement.
