Pre-16
Increasing attention is being given to peer mentoring within a school context.
Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children Schools and Families
“I am very supportive of peer mentoring as a method of helping young people to help each other. It can be used to resolve disputes and encourage friendships for children who might otherwise struggle to fit in or to feel at home in their school.”
MBF peer mentoring pilot dissemination manual
‘Peer mentoring can offer vital support during pivotal moments in a young person’s life. It draws on a resource which is available to every school in the country, it is relatively inexpensive to provide and it actually relieves pressure of staff time.’
Peer mentoring projects can be used to support a variety of programmes that address agendas and strategies within The Children’s Plan. This includes Every Child Matters, Aiming High for young people a ten year strategy for positive activities, Aim Higher and the 14-19 Reform agenda.
Within a pre-16 setting peer mentoring can be used to tackle a range issues such as transition, bullying, attainment and behaviour.
MBF supports organisations in setting up and developing peer mentoring schemes.
