Pre-16 and Post-16
Pre-16
In a Pre-16 context peer mentoring can be used to support young people between 11-16 years old. In a school context peer mentoring takes the form of older pupils providing support to younger pupils. The purpose is:
- To offer additional encouragement on aspects of school work
- To help build confidence and self esteem
- To promote a more positive participation in school life.
Post-16
In a Post-16 context peer mentoring can be used to support young people between 16-25 years old. This can be in a variety of settings including:
- FE Colleges
- Universities
- The Voluntary and Community Sector
- Youth Services
- Working with Young people in Transition
- Working with Young People in Vulnerable Situations
Support Available
- Networking/Sharing Good Practice opportunities
- Training for co-ordinators
- Bespoke training
- 1:1 Support via telephone, e-mail or visit
- Promotion of projects
- Signposting
- Presentations to senior management or stakeholders
- Resources available
