Offender mentoring pilot project

The Learning and Skills Council in the North East has engaged the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation to manage a pilot project looking at how to improve standards of mentoring and befriending for ex-offenders in the region.

The key aims are to reduce re-offending and improve employability skills by helping to build on the quality of mentoring and befriending services currently delivered within organisations working with ex-offenders in the North East.

MBF is working with these groups to develop and test a pilot training programme for volunteers based on existing good practice and to map the programme to national occupational standards for mentoring developed by Skills for Justice.

The LSC offender mentoring pilot project is funded from January 2009-March 2010 by the Learning and Skills Council North East.
