ASDAN-MBF peer mentoring short course awards

Peer mentoring short course award

MBF is working in partnership with ASDAN to help projects achieve accreditation for peer mentors and project co-ordinators through a short course award which can also contribute towards the certificate of personal effectiveness qualification.

The ASDAN-MBF peer mentoring award accredits up to 60 hours of activities carried out by peer mentors and co-ordinators in different settings and contexts.  Find out how the award fits into the UK qualification framework.

Participants work from an award book which contains a choice of personal challenges which can be completed over 30 hours or 60 hours which corresponds to either 3 or 6 credits (10 hours = 1 credit).

For peer mentors

In schools and colleges the short course award is ideal for meeting the accreditation requirements of peer led initiatives including peer mentors, peer listeners, buddies and peer counsellors.  Youth, community and training groups can work towards this award to recognise achievements in peer led youth work and in education.  Peer mentors present a portfolio of evidence of their activities.

The portfolio contains:
  • evidence of personal challenges undertaken and completed
  • planning and reviewing documents
  • completed record of progress
  • summary of skills development

For peer mentoring co-ordinators

The award is designed to support and accredit the activity of peer mentoring co-ordinators and is ideal for those wishing to gain recognition for their work in implementing and developing a peer mentoring project.  Activities should be carried out in conjunction with the relevant MBF resource pack

Peer mentoring co-ordinators completing the award must complete a minimum of 2 out of 4 of the following possible modules:
  • initiating and developing a peer mentoring programme in your centre or learning environment
  • promoting mentoring skills through a range of activities
  • learning and sharing good practice
  • reviewing and improving the peer mentoring programme
