Audit Commission looks at financial challenges of an ageing population
Report stresses savings to be made by preventative services
The Audit Commission has published a report recommending that councils and partner organisations co-operate more to tackle the main causes of social care need which include: poor housing and environment, health and mobility problems, breakdown of informal support and social isolation.
It also states how savings can be made through preventative services and befriending is listed under possible activities for low/moderate needs.
The report was published in February 2010 and is called: Under pressure – tackling the financial challenge for councils of an ageing population (Feb 2010).
