Peer mentors and co-ordinators share good practice in the South West

Event held to bring together people involved in peer mentoring

Peer mentoring network event at Exeter College

MBF recently held a peer mentoring networking event in partnership with Exeter College bringing together peer mentors and peer mentoring co-ordinators from the South West.

The event aimed to help them network with one another and share good practice and difficulties they had faced when running their peer mentoring schemes. It also allowed people considering setting up a scheme to find out what they needed to know to make sure it is successful.

The event was also attended by a number of peer mentors who discussed the differences in their schemes and how they would change peer mentoring if they could. Ideas they came up with included a peer mentoring awards ceremony or the opportunity to meet senior government ministers to show them the successes of peer mentoring.

During the event, there were three showcases of successful programmes. These were from Exeter College, Uffculme School and Highcliffe School. These were all well received with delegates saying that they really enjoyed hearing how schemes worked in different settings.

Feedback from the day included:

- Brilliant presentations and information
- Thoroughly enjoyed the day - very useful
