Do you work with local, regional or national employers to offer volunteer mentoring and befriending opportunities?
MBF national initiative to capture positive feedback and good practice from mentoring and befriending projects that involve volunteer employees
“I have changed. I manage a team and the mentoring has helped me to understand more about how people view things differently. I have become more empathetic and the mentoring has opened me up more! I am using mentoring as a style with my team and it fits well with my view of management being more about developing people rather than command and control!”
Employee mentor quote
MBF are keen to encourage employer supported skill based volunteering within mentoring and befriending projects and develop a campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of mentoring and befriending skills based volunteering.
Quality mentoring and befriending programmes can offer employers flexible, diverse and sustainable employee volunteering opportunities which develop employee skills and contribute to the wider community.
Although many employers can already vouch for the benefits of this type of volunteering, the evidence is patchy at best. MBF aims through this national initiative to gather feedback from mentoring and befriending projects to capture positive feedback and good practice. This will then be used to develop a campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of mentoring and befriending skills based volunteering.
Routes for employees and employers to access quality mentoring and befriending opportunities will also be investigated to ensure that significant progress is made to help to drive up employee volunteering in mentoring and befriending.
If you have recruited a number of volunteers for your mentoring or befriending project from one or more local, regional or national employers and are interested in taking part in this national initiative please contact Liz Wilson for more details at liz.wilson@mandbf.org.uk
