Come and see how to run a successful peer mentoring scheme

APS approved school invites people to come and see how they've set up peer mentoring

In February 2008, Headlands School in Bridlington was placed under special measures following an Ofsted report. Following this, Claire Wood, head of coaching and mentoring at the school, decided to implement a peer mentoring scheme which would allow older students to assist year seven pupils with issues regarding transition and behaviour.

The scheme has helped to transform the lives of individuals at the school and in July 2008 an OFSTED report commented that:

Under the new management structure many staff have recognised the need for change.

Learning tutors have been proactive in the creation and training of a peer mentoring group. Students appointed as peer mentors wear their eye-catching tops with pride.

They are now inviting people who are interested in running their own peer mentoring schemes to visit their project to see how it is run and to be offered advice. The event will take place on Wednesday 24th February from 10am-2pm.

For those interested in attending, please contact Angela Coyne, learning tutor, at the APS approved Headlands School by angela.coyne@headlands.eril.net or 01262 676 198 by Thursday 11th February 2010.
