Getting on: well-being in later life

Report recommends peer mentoring and befriending support to build resilience

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has produced a report which focuses on people's experience of getting older and in particular their quality of life, their expectations and their emotional wellbeing.

The report reviews UK policies for older people and international practice, as well as the priorities of older people in urban versus rural locations. It concludes with recommendations for action, which include:
  • The provision of peer mentoring/befriending support for isolated older people in order to build resilience by strengthening social networks
  • The value of older people mentoring younger students in schools
