Volunteering for disabled people

£2 million fund launched by OTS

Disabled people are 9% less likely to volunteer than the rest of the population, according to new analysis published by the Office of the Third Sector (OTS).

In recognition of these statistics, OTS has launched a £2 million pilot fund in London, the West Midlands and the North-West, to support disabled people to volunteer.

A lack of special equipment, inappropriate premises, the extra cost of travel, and the need for support workers to provide physical and communications assistance all mean disabled people are prevented from volunteering.

The Access to Volunteering fund aims to increase the number of disabled people volunteering in the target regions and is open to applications from 16 November.
