Chance UK is an early intervention mentoring programme that seeks to intervene into the lives of primary-aged children who are at risk of developing anti-social, criminal or offending behaviour.  They seek to introduce positive role models in the form of adult volunteer mentors who help the children make positive choices in their behaviours that enable them to improve relationships and participate in education.

The event was attended by MPs, Council members, Charity officials and supporters and MBF supported this event with the presence of our Deputy Chief Executive, Steve Leach.

Findings from the Goldsmith University's report on the effectiveness of this mentoring scheme shows that after passing through the Chance UK programme, 98% of children achieved a reduction in hyperactivity, emotional issues, conduct problems and problems with peers.

Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP stated in the recent Knife Crimes report that “we strongly recommend that the government adopts a “public health” approach, that invests resources in prevention to reducing knife crime.” With Goldsmith's findings proving that this is an early intervention mentoring scheme that produces results almost 100% of the time surely this programme has proven its need for expansion.

The charity is launching a new branch of their programme in Lambeth with early discussions on another branch in Southwark as well.
