In the recent Cabinet reshuffle, Angela Smith replaces Kevin Brennan, previous Minister for the Office of the Third Sector who has moved to the newly created Business, Enterprise and Skills department.

Angela Smith will be a Minister of State, rather than a Parliamentary Under Secretary reflecting the importance of the third sector at this crucial time. As the MP for Basildon, Angela has been working as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister for the last 18 months. She was also previously a vice chair of the All Party Group on Charities and the Voluntary Sector.

Angela's interests include: home affairs, animal welfare, international development, employment and youth and children's issues, including child protection. She is a patron of several charities, including Basildon Home Start, Basildon Women's Refuge, Basildon Age Concern, the Captive Animals Protection Society and the Burned Children's Club.
