Peer support in the first year of Higher Education

Report recommends a range of peer support schemes

A report published by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, Quality Enhancement Themes: The First Year Experience explores peer support in the first year as a student in Higher Education.

It recommends that mentoring and peer support schemes should be integrated into the curriculum and that rewards systems for involvement in peer support schemes are introduced.

A range of peer support, mentoring and befriending case studies are included in the report including:
  • Peer Connection at University of Dundee – befriending and mentoring for students facing difficulties or transition issues
  • The Student Network at University of Glasgow – peer support network that puts new and current students in touch with each other
