With Anti Bullying Week taking place from 17-21st November, MBF's National Peer Mentoring Anti Bullying Pilot team have been working with a number of schools and organisations to highlight the positive impact peer mentoring can have in tackling bullying.

Currently more than 6,000 Anti Bullying Peer Mentors are part of a pilot being run by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation (MBF).  Over the next two years, these young people will be working closely with fellow students helping them to understand the impact of their words or actions on others and encouraging them to become active citizens in the school community.

Claire Wood at Headlands School and Community Science College in Bridlington believes that providing a constant line of communication between staff, pupils and parents is key to the success of any scheme.

Sherife Tayfun at inner-city Hornsey School For Girls in London has been running her programme for 7 years. Sherife is currently pioneering a new 4-dimensional approach to the anti-bullying work being undertaken by the Peer Mentors at the school.

Over coming week, during Anti Bullying Week (17th – 21st November), Peer Mentors will be promoting their anti-bullying messages in school through workshops, games, plays, assemblies and even film clubs! Films such as The Bridge to Terabithia and The Ant Bully are currently being used in primary and secondary classrooms as a springboard into discussions about more complex feelings and emotions.

MBF have also teamed up with FILMCLUB to help raise awareness during Anti Bullying Week and spark debate in the classroom.  Film can be seen as a highly accessible media for young people and children, allowing them to explore complex emotions.
