Mentoring for looked after children Rainer/MBF national pilot

A manual outlining the learning from the DCSF-funded mentoring pilot for Looked After Children (LAC) is now available

In March 2007, the national young people’s charity Rainer in a strategic partnership with the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation and the Prince’s Trust, led on the national pilot for mentoring for looked after children between the ages of 10-15 years of age.

By January 2008, over 400 mentoring matches had been made through 28 providers.

The pilot provided a unique opportunity for a diverse range of providers to share their knowledge, practice and expertise and this dissemination manual aims to enable other providers to benefit from the lessons learnt.

Although the manual makes specific reference to the 10-15 year olds within the looked after population, much of what it contains has relevance to more generic models of mentoring with young people.
