ISA - new launch date for vetting and barring scheme
12 October 2009 is the new go live date for the Independent Safeguarding Authority scheme - see our updated information sheet which also includes new details of costs
The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) is a new body aiming to make it easier for organisations working with children and vulnerable adults to recruit suitable workers and volunteers more safely.
The new scheme will reform current vetting and barring practices and will impact on many services that use volunteers or employees to work closely with children and vulnerable adults. The new legal changes will affect most mentoring and befriending programmes that work with children and young people.
The new ISA scheme will go live from 12 October 2009 following consultation with key strategic partners to make sure enough time is given to fully prepare for the introduction of the scheme.
The ISA will work in partnership with the Criminal Records Bureau but will not replace the work that they do. Criminal record checks for eligible volunteers and workers will still be required.
Details about the payment fee of £64 per registration have also been announced although fees do not have to be paid for volunteers. Further details are included in our updated Information sheet below.
