National Advisory Council
A wide range of issues facing MBF and all those who work within mentoring and befriending were discussed at the National Advisory Council meeting in Manchester last December.
Important concerns such as the vulnerability of volunteers, dependability of funding, sustainability of projects and status of the Approved Provider Standard came under the microscope.
Other topics for discussion included the question: Should there be national standards for the training of volunteer mentors/befrienders?
A number agreed that there should, however the majority were against the idea of a national qualification.
However, it was the issue of safety around volunteers that most wanted to talk about and it was decided this should be discussed further. The next Regional Advisory Group meetings will be held across England in the nine government regions during January and February 2008. For further details please contact your Regional Co-ordinator.
The NAC was set up to provide a platform for members to raise issues of strategic and national importance and to allow MBF to deal with members needs and concerns.
