The Childrens Plan

School mentors are to be introduced to arrest any decline in a child’s learning or behaviour

The new Children’s Plan will aim to bring parents closer to schools and their child’s learning patterns, give them a voice in government policy through a new “parents panel,” and will attempt to provide more intensive support for families in most need.

There will be more school-based parent support advisers to monitor a child’s learning right from early infancy.

Further aims include ensuring that every child has a personal tutor and that parents receive regular information on child's attendance, behaviour and learning progress.

Pupils will be assigned one member of the school staff to act as behaviour mentor and to meet their parents, to allow swift action should their grades begin to slide.

And a “Staying Safe Action Plan” with input from the Department of Health will look at issues of drinking and drugs habits among young people.

The strategy will also look at children’s play activities and facilities and poor housing.
