Overview

This unique free regional event has been designed to bring together mentoring and befriending practitioners and commissioners to:

•Promote understanding of the benefits of mentoring and befriending programmes and how they can contribute to local and regional priorities including youth crime and older people's wellbeing
•Help commissioners and mentoring and befriending practitioners to understand each other’s requirements when commissioning programmes in the West Midlands
•Increase awareness of the guidance and support that MBF can offer to regional and local commissioners and funders including the national quality standard; the Approved Provider Standard

09.30 - 10.00  Registration and refreshments

10.00 – 10.15 Welcome and introduction to mentoring and befriending  
                        activity in the West Midlands

10.15 – 11.00 West Midlands programmes impacting on regional and local 
                        priorities and individual lives 
                        •The BUDS Project – Harborne Parishlands Charity Befriending 
                        for older people with Dementia – Project Manager Jamie Crew 
                        plus a Befriending Volunteer
                        •YSS Projects with Volunteer and Service User present to share 
                        their experiences – Staffordshire/Worcestershire

11.00 – 11.20  Morning refreshments and networking

11.20 – 12.00 West Midlands commissioning and funding activity working to 
                        meet regional and local priorities through mentoring and  
                        befriending
                        •Sam Hay, Carers Development Manager Health & Well

                        •Lorraine Preece, Service Manager YSS Ltd, plus an LA 
                        Commissioner/Probation Service representative to be confirmed

12.00 – 12.45 Roundtable discussions; opening dialogue between funders 
                        and commissioners and mentoring and befriending 
                        programmes

                        •What mentoring and befriending programmes want from
