This course is designed following the principles of the Approved Provider Standard and will help you with the processes of setting up.

Aims

  • To assess the need for your programme as well as the rationale behind it
  • To investigate different models of peer support including peer mentoring, mediation and buddying
  • To consider resourcing requirements
  • To establish appropriate structures, roles and policies/procedures
  • To practice and appraise training materials appropriate for young peer supporters


Audience

  • Aimed at practitioners within a primary education setting who wish to set up a peer programme to support pupils within their school


Learning outcomes

  • Increased understanding of the peer support role and how it can contribute to the school pastoral system and strategies such as SEAL, ECM and Emotional Intelligence
  • Increased knowledge of the processes of setting up a peer support programme including recruitment, training, monitoring and evaluation
  • Identifying a sound structural framework for sustainability


Trainer biography
MBFs own peer mentoring co-ordinators deliver this course.  They are experienced trainers and have extensive background in peer mentoring provision.
